20th Barcelona Modernista and Street Trade Fair
29, 30 and 31 May 2026
A new edition of the Fair will be held on 29, 30 and 31 May in Carrer Bruc, between Avinguda Diagonal and Consell de Cent, and in the central lanes of Avinguda Diagonal, between Carrer Bruc and Carrer Girona.
This year’s Fair is dedicated to Antoni Gaudí (1852-1926), one of the leading exponents of Modernisme, in order to commemorate the 100th anniversary of his death. The presentation of the Fair, featuring a talk by Galdric Santana, the architect curator of Gaudí Year and director of the Gaudí Chair, will take place at Casa Elizalde on 26 May and is open to the public.
During the Fair, a dance and physical theatre performance entitled Gaudí, the Architect of Dreams will recreate Gaudí’s life and work as part of a sensory journey where the body becomes architecture: breathing stone, arches rising up, roots spreading out, waves pulsating… The performance will alternate with L’Escalier, a show that combines clowning and imagination for children.
On Friday, the juggling workshop for the entire family returns, alongside a new Mr Arlet clown show that will transport us to a world where humour and tenderness coexist and where every gesture connects with the audience.
In terms of the Modernista stands, this year we are pleased to welcome for the first time the tourism boards of Garriga and Lviv, a city in Ukraine, as they promote their Modernista and Art Nouveau heritage, respectively.
Another new feature of this year’s Fair will be the themed routes: sgraffito, ceramics, wrought iron and stonework, guided itineraries throughout the Fair led by specialists in their respective fields. Also debuting will be demonstrations of traditional crafts: this year, blacksmiths and tinsmiths will show us how these trades were practised in the 19th and 20th centuries.
Popular returning activities include the cavalcade of vintage vehicles, dancing, the period performance in folding hand fan etiquette, the Llum i Color del 900 parade, the trading card album – which, of course, is dedicated to Gaudí this year – the artisans and the little train, among others.
The Fair will also have craft and street trade stands from businesses and professionals associated with Coreixample. Set against the backdrop of Modernista architecture, the stands will offer their products alongside workshops, tours and a variety of activities catering to all ages.
Visitors will also be able to enjoy the best local cuisine in the Fair’s food zone, featuring picnic areas and a large stage presenting a continuous programme of live music, exhibitions and children’s activities. Highlights will include concerts by Mrs Glow and Sardines, the DJs César de Melero and John Jacobsen, a family show by DJ Refrescos and swing dancing by The A Swing Band.
Come and enjoy the Modernista and Street Trade Fair in the heart of the Eixample district. We look forward to seeing you there!
