16th Barcelona Modernista Fair
27, 28 and 29 May 2022
The Fair returns to an in-person format! We will be back on the streets on 27, 28 and 29 May 2022 after two years of a virtual format. You will be able to find us in Carrer Girona between Diagonal and València.
This year’s Fair is dedicated to one of the most universal Catalan painters, Hermen Anglada Camarasa, so the presentation of the Fair on Wednesday 25 May will conclude with a talk by Dr Francesc Fontbona, curator of the Anglada Year, entitled “Anglada Camarasa, great international painter”. An article by Dr Fontbona about this Catalan painter has been posted on this website.
The Modernista Fair’s sticker album, which children will be able to complete by collecting the stickers at the various stands and shops in the Dreta de l’Eixample area, will feature Anglada Camarasa.
New additions for the Fair this year include an exhibition of La Pedrera’s Modernista Giants by the Association of Friends of La Pedrera’s Giants. So not only will you be able to see them strolling around on Sunday, you will also be able to view them up close in Carrer Girona between Diagonal and Mallorca on Friday and Saturday, when you can also take part in a “Paint your giant” workshop.
A surprising new activity this year is the historical setting group Llum i Color del 900, traditional collaborators of the Fair, with an exhibition of duelling swords on the weekend.
Another novelty is the show Contes amb Madame Librairie (Stories with Madame Librairie) on Saturday, a woman known around the world for her large repertoire of children’s stories and fabulous travelling library, from which she will let our imagination wander with lots of humour!
And yet another novelty this year will be the presence of the Barcelona Fire Brigade’s spectacular 1929 Ford A, with a display of how its water pump works for the audience. Don’t miss it!
There will also be newcomers at the stands, with first-time visitors including Casa Navàs in Reus, designed by Lluís Domènech i Montaner, as well as the towns of Teruel and Ferrol, which will be showing us their Art Nouveau works for the first time at the Fair. The Casa Botines in León stand is also back with a presentation at the Fair on Friday.
As in previous years, we will have our mini train (this year in Carrer Mallorca), the 8th parade of vintage vehicles by the Clàssic Motor Club from Bages, a juggling workshop on Friday, waltz dancing for all on Saturday and a period parade with Luz y Color del 900 on Sunday. At our Modernisme Route stand, we will have the children’s workshop “Paint like Anglada Camarasa”, you can take a photo of yourself dressed in period costume, see the animation of the Museum of Montcada on Saturday, enjoy the artisans and, above all, enjoy the great atmosphere and enthusiasm to go out onto the streets to discover Modernisme. We look forward to seeing you there!
